Some of Topeka’s best 2017 prospects are playing together on SSA Hoops 16U, which posted a 4-0 record at the Winter Finale in Newton this past weekend.
Washburn Rural’s Brayden White and Jenner Hickel, and Shawnee Heights’ Trey Brown, Poncho Freeman, and Michael Brooks played key roles on the team’s success.

Hickel led the team in scoring averaging 16.8 points a game on 51-percent shooting. He also averaged 3.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.2 steals.
White, a point guard who is the top-ranked sophomore in Topeka, turned in an all-around performance averaging 7.5 points, 5.2 assists, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.2 steals.
Brown is coming off a solid season for the T-Birds, who went 20-3, averaged 11.0 points, 2.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.2 steals.
Freeman, who also played a key role for the T-Birds, led the team in rebounding at 7.8 a game. He also averaged 7.2 points.
Brooks averaged 6.2 points and 2.0 rebounds.
SSA beat NW Kansas Hoopsters 87-30, KM Elite 58-49, Wichita Padres 59-56, and KM Elite 74-61 in their four games. They were unable to play in the championship game due to traveling to prior commitments.
The next tournament they will be participating is the Jewel Jam in Liberty, Mo. on April 17-19.
