Shawnee Heights shooting guard Jovan Barksdale has decided to attend Coffeyville Community College this fall he announced on Thursday.
Barksdale, the fourth-ranked 2014 prospect in Topeka according to Topeka-Hoops.com, averaged 16.8 points as a senior shooting 50 percent from the floor while helping lead the Thunderbirds to a 16-6 record.
Barksdale, the city’s leading scorer as a junior, finished fifth in the race this year, but the team doubled their win total from a year ago. The 6-foot dynamic scorer made 43 3-pointers in 20 games and scored at least 20 points in seven games including a season-high 32 points with seven 3-pointers on 11-of-15 shooting in a win over Seaman on Feb. 7, 2014.
He is the son of former Western Michigan standout Tony Barksdale, who also attended Coffeyville, which finished 23-9 last season.
Jovan Barksdale will be joining former Highland Park guard Steffon Kyles at Coffeyville.
