Shawnee Heights top-ranked senior point guard Trey Brown has verbally committed to Missouri Western.
“They’ve been in contact with me from the beginning and they’ve come to almost all of my games in the summer and when I was down there it was really like I was already a part of the family,” Brown said. “They accepted me and all the coaches are awesome.”
Brown averaged 14.8 points, 3.9 assists, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.5 steals with 43 3-pointers as a junior helping lead the Thunderbirds to a 15-7 record earning All-City Second Team honors. Brown was also a key player on Shawnee Heights’ state tournament team as a sophomore.
He is a solid ballhandler and a good passer who excels at knocking down shots on the perimeter on the offense end and on the defensive end he is a relentless, tough player.
Brown was also receiving high interest from fellow Division II and MIAA conference schools Northwest Missouri and Missouri Southern.
Missouri Western, located in St. Joseph, is coming off a 12-18 season. The Griffons are coached by Brett Weiberg.
Brown played in the summer with SSA Elite.
