The first full year of the Darting Basketball Academy began in March with about 50 high school players participating as they look to improve their skills.

The 18-week program split into spring and fall sessions began on March 22 with instruction from former Highland Park coach Ken Darting and his son Kerry Darting, (pictured left) a former walk-on at Kansas State and sharpshooter at Missouri-Rolla.

“The amount of improvement that we have seen in the short period of time that we have been working with the kids has been really fun to watch,” Kerry Darting said.  “I think that the kids are seeing the improvements as well and they are starting to have fun and develop some confidence.”

Rising senior guards Jahlil Osby (Highland Park) and Josiah Hazim (Seaman), top-ranked 2017 point guard Brayden White (Washburn Rural), top-ranked 2018 point guard Jett Canfield (Hayden), and top-ranked 2019 guard Zach Harvey are among those participating.

In addition 2018 guards Koriyon Carr (Topeka West), Ezekiel Lopes (Hayden), DeShawn Hanika (Washburn Rural), and Tyler White (Shawnee Heights); 2017 forwards Scott Wilson (Hayden) and Tyler Lynn (Seaman); and 2019 guard Jordan White (Washburn Rural) and 2019 Levi Braun (Topeka West) are also in the program.
