Jahmal McMurray’s first experience as a college basketball player will be in Spain.
McMurray, a freshman guard from Highland Park High School, will be traveling to Spain as part of USF’s 10-day tour, which includes four exhibition games on Aug. 8-19.
“They are going to get an unbelievable experience on this trip,” USF head coach Orlando Antigua said. “Most of these guys have never been in a foreign country, so it will be beneficial for them to experience another culture while playing the game they love as we prepare for the upcoming season.”
Schools are allowed to participate in a foreign tour once every four years and are allowed 10 practices starting on July 29.
They will be traveling to Madrid and Barcelona and will be playing games against the Venezuela and Angola national teams in addition to two games against C.B. Vic, a fifth-level Spanish basketball club.
McMurray, who is wearing No. 0 for the Bulls, enrolled at USF in May and has been participating in offseason workouts with the team and taking summer classes.
The complete 2015-16 schedule has not been announced, but certain games have been most notably a contest against Kentucky on Nov. 27 in Miami.
Other games that have been released include hosting NC State (Dec. 13), Boston University (Nov. 21), and Albany (Nov. 24).
He played one year at Sunrise (Kan.) Christian Academy after four years at Highland Park, where he was a three-time all-state selection including first-team All-State as a senior in 2014. He was a two-time city player of the year honoree while helping lead the Scots to the state championship game both years amassing a 47-3 record.
