Jayhawk Invitational Players and Teams to Watch

The 2016 Jayhawk Invitational will be held April 29-May 1 at various facilities in the Overland Park area.

A number of top players from Topeka will be participating in the event, which is during an evaluation period for Division II coaches, but not for Division I.

The top-ranked players in each respective class will be participating in the event include 2017 point guard Trey Brown, 2018 point guard Jett Canfield, and 2019 guard Zach Harvey.

Here are some of the top players and teams to watch. Click on a players name to view their bios, which includes highlight videos.

17U: SSA Elite

Point guard Trey Brown (Shawnee Heights) is the top-ranked 2017 prospect in Topeka after averaging 14.8 points and 3.9 assists as a junior. He has fielded interest from Northern Arizona and Division II programs Northwest Missouri State, Missouri Southern State, and Missouri Western State.  Fellow 2017 point guard Brayden White (Washburn Rural) is also a player to watch after averaging 5.7 points and 4.5 assists as a junior. Forwards Jenner Hickel (Washburn Rural) and Poncho Freeman (Shawnee Heights) are not expected to play due to injuries.

17U: Kansas Cagers

2017 shooting guard Jesse Moss (Shawnee Heights) is a solid perimeter shooter who hit 28 3-pointers as a junior while high school teammate 2017 shooting guard Tyler Zentner (Shawnee Heights) is also on the team. The Cagers also have a number of other players on the team receiving Division II interest.

16U: KC Run GMC

2018 point guard Jett Canfield (Hayden) plays on a very talented KC Run GMC team that has started 6-2 in UAA competitions in New York and Indiana. Canfield is a solid player who earned All-City first team honors as a sophomore averaging 14.7 points and 4.7 assists a game.  Penn has recently expressed interest in Canfield, who holds an offer from Division II Washburn.

16U: SSA Elite

2018 point guard Koriyon Carr (Topeka West) is one of the team’s top players after averaging 13.3 points and 3.7 assists as a sophomore. 2018 forward Hayden Federico (Hayden), 2018 shooting guard Tyler White (Shawnee Heights), and 2018 guard Jack Hamilton (Washburn Rural) are also on the team.  SSA Elite will be without 2018 shooting guard DeShawn Hanika (Hayden) due to an injury.

15U: KC Run GMC

2019 guard Zach Harvey (Hayden) is a high-major prospect who has picked up offers from Kansas, Kansas State and Creighton after two impressive weekends helping lead KC Run GMC to an 8-0 mark in UAA play averaging a team-high 14.6 points a game.  2019 point guard Jordan White (Washburn Rural) is a solid contributor for the impressive team.

15U: SSA Elite

2019 shooting guard Levi Braun (Hayden) was one of the top freshmen in Kansas last season and has continued his shooting touch this month pouring in 25 points in a game at the Midwest Live in Iowa. 2019 point guard Tyce Brown (Shawnee Heights) has shown flashes this summer and is also a player to watch.
