OLATHE — ‘No Zero Days’ was the motto for today’s event, starring fie players from Topeka.
The Northern Exposure Preps invite-only Fall Ball Invitational was played at Olathe East High School on Sunday. This event brought in local and national media and included a dunk session and guaranteed three games.
Here is how players from Topeka did at the event:
Trey Brown, 5-10, PG, Shawnee Heights, 2017 — Brown was placed on a team that had a lot of talent. He was able to move well without the ball. He was capable of containing his defenders with his superb defense. After a tough first game with his teammates controlling the ball most of the time, Brown was able to pick his spots on the offensive end in the final two games.
Zach Harvey, 6-3, G, Hayden, 2019 — Harvey’s quick ball-handling skills was were match for his opponents earning co-MVP honors in the 2019 class. He had a tough match up during his second game as he was guarded by Hayden teammate DeShawn Hanika, but came up short with a loss, 75-72. Harvey had a couple behind-the-back crisp passes to his teammates that ended in baskets. He averaged 17 points in the three games with a high of 26.
Poncho Freeman, 6-2, F, Shawnee Heights, 2017 — Freeman was able to show off his rebounding and passing during the second game. He ended that game with 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal. He helped his team win, 104-96
DeShawn Hanika, 6-3, SG, Hayden, 2018 — Hanika had an impressive day, with the most noted one being the final game. He ended that game with 18 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds and his team came away with the win, 113-71. With numbers like these, he will be an extremely valuable asset to Hayden’s upcoming season.
Savian Edwards, 5-5, PG, Washburn Rural, 2019 — Edwards continued to improve his skills on defense on grabbing rebounds with the best of them. He will be someone to keep an eye on in this season at Washburn Rural.
