Former Highland Park star Kyle Weems has signed a new deal to play in France for the 2014-15 season after spending two years in Germany.
The 24-year old swingman signed with JSF Nanterre, which plays in the top league in France–the LNB Pro A.
“Really excited about signing with JSF Nanterre,” Weems said. “It’s a great basketball situation and its 10 minutes outside of Paris. We are in the Eurocup, which is a level below Euroleague and we are in the first league in France. Overall, I am very excited about testing my game in a new country and a new market.”
This past season, Weems led Medi Bayreuth (Germany BBL) in scoring averaging 14.8 points per game in his first season with the club after leading the Telekom Baskets in scoring (13.7) the previous year. He also averaged 5.5 rebounds and 1.7 assists. Weems scored a season-high 34 points on April 17 and scored in double figures in 28 of 33 games.
After going undrafted out of Missouri State in 2012, Weems has spent the last two summers in the NBA Summer League playing with the Warriors, Raptors, and Hawks. He will not be playing this summer due to recently getting married to his longtime girlfriend, Jacque Griggs, who also played at Missouri State.
JSF Nanterre won the French Cup this past year after being a finalist in 2013. They were led in scoring by former Michigan State standout Deshaun Thomas, a second-round pick by San Antonio in 2013.
Nanterre is a city with a population of 91,000 that is in the western suburbs of Paris located seven miles west of the center of Paris.
